Today we go to the Boise area to Nampa to the Edmark Chevy GMC dealership to have the truck looked at.
We left around 8 and headed for Cascade a small tourist town located near Cascade Lake, for breakfast at Grandmas. Not very many people there just one table of older bikers that came there just for breakfast from around the area.
I had made an appointment for between 10 and 10:30 as I thought it would allow us plenty of time to get there. It seems that I did not take into account the canyon that we had to travel along with speeds averaging 45-50 mph. I called ahead and said we would be there before 11:30 and we make that time. Checked in with the service area and gave them our requirements and waited for about two hours for them to make their diagnosis. What they came back with was that the rotors were warped and needed to be re-surfaced, the transmission checked out as OK, but they thought we needed new injectors. I asked why and they said, because it smoked when it was started up. They gave me a price on the injectors and it was somewhere around $4,000, yea, thousand and they would need the truck for a day. I said lets hold up on that and lets just do the rotors. They said that would be about 2 hours, this was at 1:30.
Looking for a lunch place, there was a Walmart across the street with a Subway, co-located inside, so Subway it was. Did a little shopping while we were there with more to come after we got the truck back. We used up about an hour and a half with lunch and returned to the truck place and figured we had a couple of hours before it was done. Well, after checking we the service guy several times, the truck was finally ready around 4:30, so we had spent a great deal of time at the Dealership. It was nice enough, three big screen TVs, comfortable couches, soft drinks and water, and famous Amos cookies. But not the was you want to spend your day.
Then it was back to Walmart for our grocery shopping and then headed out of town. Sharon had a Chick fil A coupon for a free large coke so we had to stop by there on the way out. I had also spotted a Nike Factory Store and I needed to buy a new pair of sneakers, as Curtis had given me a gift card for Father's day. We were in 5 o'clock traffic and Chick fil A is where we had happy hour.
I needed fuel before we headed up the canyon and had to purchase my first $4 diesel, $4.05, but it was higher elsewhere.
Finely, 12 hours after we had started we arrived back in McCall, where we had Happy Hour, and a nice sandwich. We were whipped from driving and sitting all day.
I am glad we make the trip and had the truck checked out and did not find any problem with the transmission, it will give us peace of mind when we make the trip back home at the end of the summer. I did some reading on diesel injectors and my interpenetration of what I read, it does not seem to be a big problem. Even the service guy at the dealership, said as we were leaving, I don't think a little smoke at start up is that big of a problem.
Could be me working on the blog |
