Long Bike Ride

August 30, 2013, Friday Day 91

It was another fresh fruit smoothie today to use up the last of the fresh berries we bought at the McCall Farmers Market, Blue Berries.

After breakfast I went on a Long Bike Ride, a long bike ride for me, I was out about 45 minutes.  Took a bike path most of the way, there are a lot of nice bike paths in and around McCall.  This one took me down town, past the tennis courts, the skate park, to the lake, up toward the golf course, down the road to Al's house, back toward the RV park past Riddley's, the Fire Station and into the park.  Took a little while to get off the bike and into the chair.

After the ride we had left overs for lunch, part of Sharon's pizza from the Toll House and a half a Pita sandwich from Blue Moose.

It was good weather for Happy Hour.  The park is beginning to  fill just prior to the Labor Day weekend and should be full tomorrow.  In going over our events of the day Franz disclosed that he did laundry that day and wanted to get some credit for that.  Turns out that he washed 3 pair of socks and nobody felt that that was worthy of credit.

After happy hour Sharon put together a very nice salmon and bow tie pasta dish.  That, along with a cold white wine capped off the activities for the day.

The fire helicopters are still very active in the area, using the McCall airport as a staging base.

Line Dancing

August 29, 2013, Thursday Day 90

It doesn't seem like 90 days but according to the calendar and the blog that's what it is.  Covered a lot of territory in that time and the odometer on the truck shows in excess of 6,500 miles.

Today started with a fresh fruit smoothie, most of which came from the Farmers Market, fresh strawberries, banana, and a kiwi along with some ice cubes and pomegranate juice.

I took a bike ride today up the big hill, down past the smoke jumpers base, past River Ranch, past the snow tubing hill, to Payette River Estates.  I stopped just short of the hill going down to the river as I did not want to have to climb back up it after I went down.  The ride took about an hour and was fun.

While I was on the way, Marcia called and invited us to lunch and after I returned to the park, we all went to the Toll Station, near the lake for a quick lunch on their patio.  The weather was great and the food was good, along with a pleasant waitress.

In the evening following Happy Hour, Sharon and I went to Foresters, to watch Marcia Line Dancing. This was our last opportunity to see her dancing, as we will be leaving McCall next week.  Marcia is really into Line Dancing, teaching a class at the RV park on Tuesday's, and Foresters on Thursday's.

At the end of the Line Dancing Franz joined us and we went for a late evening dinner at Blue Moose, Burgers were the main fare along with a cold Moose Head.

House in the Woods

August 28, 2013, Wednesday Day 89

Started the day with a little email on the iPad and a frozen fruit smoothie.

Today is McCall Farmers Market.  We went to pick up a few things.  Fresh berries, strawberries and blue berries to make some fresh fruity smoothies.  Some olive oil from Gonzo, a former resident of Austin and makes a very mean olive oil.  We usually get the Blood Orange and his very special Garlic.  We also picked up a carrot cake and some sweet corn.

Back at the park I took a walk around the park and down by the river.  There is a monster house being built in the woods just on the other side of the river.  I need to take and adventure over there to check it out.

For lunch it was to Sub Way for a sandwich and a free cookie that I earned by answering their survey on line.  What a deal.

We had Happy Hour with Marcia and Franz followed by Dead Chicken on the grill, served with a little sweet corn.

I have included a couple of pictures of our RV in the park.

If anyone can tell me what this structure is, you will win a prize.  It is located on the dirt road behind the RV park that leads to the river and the house across the river.

Pueblo Lindo

August 27, 2013, Tuesday Day 88

After a fine breakfast of hard boiled egg, sausage and pepper jack cheese, all heated in the microwave, yummy, Sharon and I went for a walk in the park.  A thirty minute walk that got the body moving again.

We had an bigger lunch than usual at Pueblo Lindo as I would be golfing late.  Sharon had a vintage Coke glass along with her lunch.  Again, this is the best Mexican food in the area.

We had sort of an emergency in McCall.  Al's friend, that was visiting him from Florida for a few days, had to be Star Flighted to Boise with a heart problem.

As our foursome was broken up, I golfed with Steve Bussolini at Tamarack, taking advantage of the $25 Tuesday after 3 PM special.  It was a great day, golf was good too, except I did not finish #18 with the same ball, however I did get a Bogey.  Weather was in the area on the opposite mountain and fortunately for the golfing, it did not make it to Tamarack.

Thanks to golf and the morning walk, I set

my fit bit record with over 10,000 steps.

During the night we had a great rain with some thunder, hopefully it did not create and new lighting started forest fires.

First Day of School

August 26, 2013, Monday Day 87

After a frozen fruit smoothie for breakfast I decided to take a Big, Big walk.  Maybe fit bit is helping me get my ass out of the chair.  I walked for an hour, about 3.5 miles up and down the hills.  After the walk I needed a rest so I settled in and watched a little tennis.  Up the big hill, down the bike path to the skate park and the tennis courts, up Mission to the sewer road, down the sewer road to the dirt road that runs into the park and then a walk around the park.

We had Happy Hour and then Sharon and I had Lamb Chops on the grill with the balance of the Sterling Cab, complements of Andi and David.

In the late evening hours it is fox feeding time.  The guy at the end has their confidence and is able to feed them by hand.  I think it is an egg.

August 26, marks the first day of school in many parts of the country, as it is here in McCall.  We are sure noticing the difference at the park, no kids and the park is as empty as we have seen it all summer.  It was also granddaughter Kirsten's first day of the last year in High School.

The Plane, The Plane

August 25, 2013, Sunday Day 86

OK, it's Sunday and it is time for TPH again.  We went with Marcia as Franz was tied up or going to be tied up on the tennis court.  I guess after breakfast we will have to go down there and untie him.  I opted for a simpler version of the Fred pancake sandwich, 2 dollar size, 2 eggs over easy and a side of bacon and it was just right.

After breakfast I went for a big walk around the area, down to the bridge and back, good walk.  During the walk I noticed something different about the plane that is permanently parked near the park.

The Plane this year
The Plane last year

In the evening we decided to treat ourselves to dinner out at Romano's.  A nice Italian place in down town McCall on the lake and probably the only Italian place around.  It was a very good meal.  I thought we were going to treat ourselves, but as it turned out it was Franz doing the treating.  As much as I insisted, he would not hear of splitting the bill.  He said I couldn't afford to split the bill.

A couple of my golfing buddies and their wives are vacationing in Pagosa Springs, Colorado trying to beat the heat of Texas in Georgetown.

Even the squirrels are having a problem with the heat in Texas.

RZRs

August 24, 2013, Saturday, Day 85

I used the FitBit last night while I slept and the results were encouraging, my sleep efficiency was 97%, that means that I didn't wake up much and that the snore machine must be working.  I also took a walk around the park and got some steps and Very Active Minutes.  So far so good. I also noticed that a sign was added to the airplane near the park.

A group of RZR's joined us in the park occupying a full quad, just above us.  A quad is a space in the RV park where four RV's are parked around a nice grassy space with their doors opening into the nice grassy space.  Makes for a good community atmosphere for related campers.  I talked to some of the RZR's about their activities.  They are on a two week trip, and have stopped here in McCall for a couple of days of mountain riding.  One said yesterday that his speedometer showed that they went 220 miles.  They are leaving here Sunday and going to geville, to continue their fun.  These machines weigh about 1,500 lbs and have a price of around $15,000 and to put one on the road you probably have to put another $5 to $10 thousand and after that, the sky is the limit.

We had Happy Hour with Marcia and Franz and afterward Sharon and I enjoyed a Steak dinner, with baked sweet potato, and a Sterling Cab, compliments of Sharon's friend Andi and her husband David.
