Flag Day
As unlikely as it may seem, I was invited back for a second round of tennis. I think they get tired of playing with the same people and like someone new to beat up on, well here I am. Today we played at a small park just off of Murdock and Crane. Tennis was to start at 8:30 and I started in plenty of time, but on the way there was an accident on highway 41 and three lanes of traffic came to a dead stop. It was like I35 all over again, for those of you in Austin. Talked with Nancy and she said she had heard on the radio that traffic could be held up for an hour and she was going to the park. Well not quite and hour and I was just a little late for the start of tennis. The format for today was 5 players alternating in and out after your service game. It made for a low impact form of tennis and we ended up playing for a couple of hours. I was better, still not good, but maybe there is some hope.
After tennis It was back to the camp ground, some scenes of the camp ground.
Picked up Sharon and we went to Walmart to get a new fan for the RV, the old fan, two years old and also did double duty in the laundry room at home, came unscrewed and died, also needed some gas for the for the grill. A quick stop at Subway, same one as yesterday, had a different sandwich, for a quick lunch and then off to the gas pump. I hadn't filled the truck since we arrived in Oshkosh and it was thirsty. Forty gallons and $160 dollars later, she was full. Diesel was cheaper here $3.949 vs $3.959 the last stop.
Back at the RV we cleaned up and headed for the Bill and Pam Neubauer's in Menasha, a suburb of Appleton and 20 some miles up the road from Oshkosh. They have a real nice home and Pam has a wonderful looking garden area, with lots and lots of nice flowers. She says it is her passion and spends many hours out there and the effort is well worth it. We had Happy Hour there, Wisconsin Manhattans, with dill beans, home made, with their daughter Becca and her son and their grandson Micah . Her husband Gabe is in New York City participating in the eBooks price fixing trial. He and Becca live in Austin, Gabe is a lawyer with the Texas State Attorneys Office and Beck is a lawyer with Travis County.
After happy hour we went to the Red Ox Inn for dinner. A very typical Wisconsin restaurant where when you enter most of the activity was centered around the bar with lots of very happy people. Dinner was great and the portions were very much Wisconsin size. It was a great evening and we were very happy we could spend some time with Bill and Pam. Bill and I worked together at Oshkosh Truck Corporation and have kept in touch over the years.
Bill and Pam had rented a house in Sun City Texas this past year for the months of February, March and April this year so they could get away from the cold winter and be closer the their Grandson and family.
