Batter up

July 7. 2014 Day 26

Morning temperature 65 degrees.

Al needed another ski session on the lake today and I need a little more practice.  Al wanted to go on the big lake and needed a spotter, Nancy was busy so Sharon consented to do the spotting chores, which means she holds up a yellow flag when the skier is in the water and tells the boat driver when the skier falls, a requirement for skiing on Payette Lake.

I failed the in water launching pop quiz of boating 101.  Al launched the boat with Sharon and I in it and I was supposed to back it up away from the dock and then come back and pick up Al after he parked the truck.  It is a big launching ramp more that big enough for two boats and there was another boat in the slip.  I did not have good direction when backing up and every time I tried to correct I kept heading for the other boat while Sharon was giving me directions.  Try as I might I could not get the boat to go backwards in the right direction, so I did the only thing I could do, turn around in the slip and head out forward.  Oh, did I mention that I scraped up against the other boat in the slip, no harm no foul.  The guys in the other boat said I was lucky and I said thank you.

Al caught up with us at the dock and we headed out into the lake.  Water was pretty choppy and not very good skiing so we headed up to the other end of the lake, near Ponderosa Park, into a cove where the water was much smoother.  Al wanted to try the slalom ski since he had not gotten up on it the other day.  My first time to pull him up and it was successful, although not perfect.  He make two passes around the cove and Al dropped off, he was through.

Since we were out on the lake we decided to take a little cruise around and look at all the beautiful houses and the scenery around the lake.

Returning to the launch ramp and trailering the boat was much better, Al talked me in and we got it loaded in record time.

After returning the boat to Al's house Sharon and I headed for Ridley's to pick up necessaries and I need some shoe laces, that I found at Rite-Aid.

We dropped the groceries off at the RV and went to Subway for lunch.  Did you know that can make any sandwich into a salad?  I had the BMT at it was very good.

Skip and Bev had HH at their place this evening and we were joined by Becky and Rick, from Phoenix by way of Ogden.  We had met Becky and Rick in Buena Vista a few years back and Franz had enticed them to come to McCall for a while this year.  They could not get a space in our park, so they are parked back down the road a piece.

Now its time to pick up Nancy for the softball game to watch Al, multi-sport, and the mighty  Fearless Fossils.  It was a close game, but in the end the mighty Fearless Fossils came up a bit short.  It is sort of a co-rec league with a 2 female minimum requirement and a six run rule per inning.  A couple of familiar faces were there, Robert from the tennis courts and Ballard from the golf course.

After the game we went to the Salmon River Brewing Company, the new hot spot in town, taking over the space formerly occupied by Notch Eight, and doing a booming business.  When I sat down at the table I realized that I did not have my camera and I figured I'd left it at the ball park, so off I went.  Luckily for me it was setting on the picnic table right where I had left it, whew, another senior moment overcome.  Back at SRBC we were joined by another team mate and family, including daughter, who served as the Famous Fossils catcher and her to adorable children.  Chicken wrap for Sharon and Fish tacos for me with a cold beer and a 'diet coke".

Back at the RV park, late, it was a pleasant evening.  One of our neighbors came up and struck up a conversation.  He said, you know those dryer sheets you suggested to the people next to you, they are good friends with us and talking to then today they just wanted to say thank you and that they really work.  Another RV cleaning secret passed on successfully.

The Wasp count is up to Six.
