New Nine

July 29, 2012, Day 44

Sunday started out like a lot of Sunday's here in McCall, breakfast at The Pancake House. Us and the other RV'ers Franz and Marcia and Skip and Bev. Big breakfasts, mean no lunch for me, I had my favorite, Blue Berry pancakes, eggs in between and a side of bacon.

Back at the RV, I made arrangements with my cousin Joanne James to visit them in Maridian, when we go to Boise for our Costco run on Tuesday.   Watched the end of Money Ball, the one that glitched last week and Franz returned to Net Flix.  Watched some of the olympics, and the end of the hole tournament, Canadian Open.  Quite a finish two were tied and one a shot behind. The guy tied dumped his shot in the bunker and his par putt came up short, the guy one behind, hit a great shot close and left his birdie putt short. So the guy sitting in the clubhouse was the winner.

The people next to us were there for a softball tournament, his daughter plays and they go to all the games around the state. This was the last one and he was relieved, said now he could start his summer.

Before leaving for golf, aired up the tires on Sharon's push cart and put a little more air in my rear bike tire.

Skip on the tee
At the golf course for the nine hole five o'clock special, 10 bucks. Played a new nine for me, Cedars, a tight layout that ran up in the foot hills, the. Views were beautiful and the golf was tollerable. Sharon and I played with Skip and Bev. After golf Sharon and I hung around for dinner at the club. A couple of beers and some fish tacos really hit the spot. Back at the RV some ice cream, a little Olyimpics and bed.

Farmers Market

July 28, 2012, Day 43

Today, Saturday, was McCall Farmers Market.  We continued Sharon's search for the allusive lip balm.  She finally got a name for someone at the Farmers Market and I tracked down the web site, but were still unable to identify the recommendation from the local doctor.  While we were there we picked up some blue berrys, we think they are local.

In the late afternoon I went to play golf with Al and some of his friends at Jug Mountain.  It was a very slow round 5 hours plus.  Al's friend Andy was a very good golfer, played from the tips and was very deliberate, but probably shot in the mid 70's.  Juji on the other hand was just slow, slow to pull a club, slow to hit at least three practice swings, and slow to putt.  I made the mistake of playing with Al from the Blue's, just a little too far, think I broke a hundred, lots of max 7's.  Highlight of the round was a birdie on #10, down hill from there, think I lost concentration as well as at least 6 ball.

Didn't get back to the Park, until after 8:30 so it was a late happy hour.  Nothing thawed for dinner so we went to Riddley's and got some hot dogs and buns and had a great evening munch.  Watched the Olympics and went to bed.

A Room with a View

July 27, 2012, Day 42

Thanks to Gretchen, we found the sign you made for Fred's Bar and Grill and have it desplayed in a prominent place.

Sharon did laundry in the morning, a weeks worth of laundry makes for a lot of washing and folding and jockeying for washers and dryers, not to mention the hauling back and forth and the quarters.

We decided to go out for lunch this afternoon and wanted to go back to the Pan Cake House, they do serve lunch. We got there at 1:30 and it was packed and a half hour wait. So we decided to look around the place. They have an antique store up stairs, a Christmas shop down stairs with lots and lots of stuff and Augie has a sheepskin shop, guess he is looking for something to do when Texas Baseball is over. Gave Sharon a little time to talk on the phone to Sheri. Lunch was good we split a Pastrami and it was plenty enough to eat along with the friesand the cup of soup.

Today was also a day for a drive and we had scoped out Pondarosa Park on the map and decided to try it out. What a beautiful place, a state park with a $5 entry fee to keep the riff raff out. A big welcome center with plenty of space for camping and enjoying the day. And the views were spectacular back toward the city, towering cliffs, big pines and the rock of Gibraltar.

Big Rock

Golf Balls for sale
After our drive it was back to the park. This guy down a few spaces from us has golf balls for sale with an interesting pricing schedule. $0.40 for 1-50, $0.35 for 51-100, $0.30 for 101-200 and $0.25 for 201-all. Let me know if you want me to pick you up some, no pro-v1's however.

We had Happy Hour at Skip's and I fixed Sharon a Mexican Martini, she said it was good.  Everyone was in attendance, even Franz after his morning of putting buoys in the lake for Al to measure his swimming distance and a motor bike ride.  Still waiting for my camera battery charger.

Back at the ranch it was steak on the grill, with a very good Cameron Hugh's lot 300.

After that we turned on the Olympics and enjoyed the opening ceremony, followed by desert.  Not quite as good as the Cheese Cake Factory, but it was Paul's best New York Cheese Cake.

Back on the Air

Well it was a simple problem and the guy from Tengonet, Cody, in Austin, Texas, helped me recover.  The problem is that I have one Internet connection with Tengonet that I can transfer between devices and if you attempt to go on the Internet on a device that is not logged in you can get errors.  Evidently, that's what happened, I attempted to post to my blog and was not on the Internet and it returned error 404.  That was then saved in my Internet history, so that every time I tried to post it went to the page that said error 404.  So Cody had me clear out my temporary Internet history files and voalla, I am now able to post, because that error page is not in the history.  See how simple it was.  Now the problem is that my memory is not very good and I did not take good notes on what happened those few days I was off the air, worried more about the blog problem than the blog content, so here goes.

July 23, 24, 25, 26, 2012, Days 38, 39, 49 and 41

Monday - played tennis at Al's place and held my serve three times in the first set, first time ever, and we went to a tie breaker, played with Skip and he was playing very well, but we lost the tie breaker,    5-7.

That's all I can remember about Monday except I'm sure we had a happy hour and great food on the grill, with a nice wine.

Tuesday - I think this is when I discovered that I had left my battery charger for my camera at home and I was running out of charge.  I did have a USB connector from the phone to the computer, so I connected it up, but it only ran the battery down to nothing.  I had a couple more USB charging things for my IPhone and Ipad, tried them with the camera, no success.  So my good buddy, Franz, got on to Amazon.com and found a charger for my phone, so for $4.59, including shipping, I should have a new charger today.

I installed Sharon's Sun Flower, from our trip last year and it is working just fine.  Sharon did not like the way our site was looking, too much junk around, so we cleaned it up so it looks much better.

Chicken on the grill, and a nice wine.

Memory is short

Franz and Marcia loaned us the DVD Money Ball and after dinner I put it in and started watching it was a very interesting movie and just when it stated getting good it crashed.  Tried to get it going but with no success.  Didn't know if it was the player or disk, so I went down to Franz and he tried it in his player and it was the disk.  He sent it back to Net Fliks and a new disk should be coming shortly.

Wednesday - It was all tennis all day.  There is a group of players that plays on Monday's in Donnly and Wednesday's in McCall.  They only have two courts in Donnly and have four courts in McCall, so we sign up for Wednesday.  Three sets, switching with three different partners, was paired with Skip the first set and we won, finally.

That evening the tennis club had a clinic, this time it was on doubles strategy.  The guy running the clinic was very knowledgeable, but talked too much, so it cut down on our hitting time, too much not enough hitting and that is what I am there for.

Lamb Chops on the grill with a nice red wine.

I need to start playing more golf.

Thursday - More tennis.  8 AM, very early for being on vacation and all, Al said they had a conflict with the courts, so we had to start that early.  More of the same, fell back into bad tennis, won some games, held serve some, but lost the sets.  I keep telling myself it is good exercise and keeps me healthy, still would like to play better.

Ah, to the golf course, for lunch.  We went with Franz and Marcia to the McCall Golf Club, they were having the McCall Armature Golf Tournament, so it was hard to find a place to park and it would have been impossible to play golf.  It looked like they had two shot gun starts with 15 flights, a big deal for McCall.  The Burgers were good and the beer was cold.

Happy Hour, Salmon on the grill with a nice three buck chuck.

Hopefully I have it figured out and I can now be more regular, we'll see.

Back in the Swing

July 22, 2012, Day 37

Another glorious Sunday started with breakfast at the Pan Cake House.  This morning I decided to eat light, a mexi-cani omelet with biscuits and gravy, Sharon had a Huckleberry Crepe.  After breakfast we noticed a fire truck for sale by the city of McCall, a 1997, with about 8,000 miles, very low mileage would make someone a great second fire truck, maybe Kristen would like it to drive to school.

Finished watching the British Open.  If felt so bad for Adam loosing it the way he did, four up with four to go, and couldn't buy a putt.  Good for Ernie.

Then it was hair cut time, no in process pictures only a self portrait afterward.

They have a weekend special at McCall Golf Course, 9 holes for $10, after five, so I joined Skip and Bev. We got a late start because of activity on the course, be it was good to be on the golf course. Got yelled at by the group in front of us, claimed we hit into them three times. It was really only once they over reacted on the other two. I apologized and its was somewhat accepted, as I said it was not intentional. After that we stayed way back.

Golf lasted longer than expected so when I got home I suggested we go to Blue Moose for pizza.  It was very good and the facility was well put together using all native and natural, local artisans and materials.

Kicking Back and Re-entry

July 20, 21, 2012, Day 35 &36

Friday - Spent most of our time recovering from our Celebration Vacation within our Vacation.  Sharon went to the grocery store for necessaries and I think I finished my book as well as spending a lot of time watching the British Open.  Around 3 Skip stuck his head in my door and asked if I wanted to golf around 5, I agreed.  After 5 on Friday, Saturday and Sunday, McCall golf course has a $10 special for nine holes, plus cart, not a bad deal.  Played with Skip and his wife Bev, Sharon opted to stay at home and hostess the Happy Hour with Franz and Marcia.

Saturday - A nice light breakfast at home and then to the Farmer's Market.  Sharon was looking for some cream for her lips that the Dr. recommended, but that person wasn't there, so we need to check again on Wednesday. But, we found lots of other things, Green Chili Chicken tamales, Chili Reno, some Carrot Cake, a couple of peaches, corn on the cob and some very nice flowers for the RV.  Sharon did such a nice arrangement.  Back at the RV did a little more Golf watching.  After Golf watching we headed for the work-out room. Each of us doing a few exercises I think we lasted maybe 30 minutes.  By then it was time for Happy Hour with the RV group, sans Eddie P and Margaret as they left on Friday morning.

Hamburgers on the grill capped the evening.
