Finale 2015

September 19, 2015, Saturday, day 97

Finished the unloading in the AM then headed for the storage lot to wash down the rig, had a few layers of bugs on the cap, had to use dryer sheets to get them all off, and put it away for the season, except for minor visits to get things we forgot.

Had Rolland over for HH, then lamb on the grill and watched the horns. What a performance in the fourth quarter. Heat broken for Rose. I think they found their QB, QB, QB, QB!

Thanks for coming along, see you again next year.

Home Sweet Home

September 18, 2015, Friday, day 96

Headed home. Made it, no problem, got in a little after 3. Then the work started. Unloaded in the heat of the day. Got wiped out around 6 and headed for WhataBurger, hadn't had one in at least 96 days. Good as ever.   Back at the ranch unloaded in the dark till we fell in bed.

Fort Stockton Gate Way to Big Bend

September 17, 2015, Thursday, day 95

Headed for Ozona. Stopped short Fort Stockton, good decision.

Dinner at Alfredo's, had a green chili, queso, rib eye. First ever and it was good. Topped it off with a DQ Blizzerd.

Visit With Lorraine

September 16, 2015, Wednesday, day 94

To Las Cruces today visited with Lorraine my Step-Mother age 91. During the past year she had been doing some re-model of her house and one of the rooms was the guest bathroom.

Had dinner with her at one of the places she likes, Ruby Tuesday.

End of Albuquerque Visit

September 15, 2015, Tuesday , day 93

Golf with Droop at paradise hills just a two some, it is now called Desert Greens. Then a little HH back at the part. It was really nice to spend two days golfing with Droop.

Golf with Droop

September 14, 2015, Monday, day 92

Golf with Norm and Tom and Leo at Santa Ana.

Dinner at little Anita's with Droop. We were planning on Lisa too be she wore herself out chasing dogs and she had to settle for take out.

Tom's House

September 13, 2015, Sunday, day 91

Today we are off to Tom and Lucretia's home in the Jemez that Tom built with his own hands over the past 12 years.

Indian tacos for lunch down near the Jemez Pueblo.

Made a Costco liquor run. They sell liquor in side the Costco and have a Kirkland brand of vodka, made in France that Sharon says tastes pretty much like Grey Goose, so we bought a few. We had Costco chicken salad for dinner back at the park.

Hey Kristen, New Drum

September 12, 2015, Saturday, day 90

Again up at 7, but this time we just get to sit around and enjoy some down time and coffee.

Went to see Willard and Debby at their new home in Edgewood with Droop. Nice house, they say this one is the last.  Willard gave us a demonstration of how to use his new flip phone. It was quite amazing just what he can do with that new technology.

Did a quick lunch at the Pizza Barn in Edgewood. Did you know they have 22 different beers on tap?  We are already planing our trip next year when we will go to the brewery in Moriarity.

Stopped off at Droop's on the way back and enjoyed a beer on the patio with Lisa and picked up a new drum

Back at the park I attempted to watch the Longhorn game without much success. I finally got most of my information via Twitter. Bad wifi. The horns won over the mighty Rice Owls.

Happy Birthday Willard

September 11, 2015, Friday, day 89

Willard's birthday, now-a-days it's hard to forget his birth date.

Again, up at 7, leaving Colorado City headed to Albuquerque, not a long drive. Very cool this morning and overcast, 55° and dropped to 53° when we got on the road. Going over Raton Pass there was dense fog and drizzle.

Got into the RV park at 1:30, unhooked and set up then headed for a green chili fix. Stuffed sopapias, smothered in green chili and stuffed with carne adovada was just what the Dr. ordered.

Caught up with Droop around 6:30 after he finished his chores and we had a delayed HH.

Blue Bell?

September 10, 2015, Thursday, day 88

Up at 7 again, off to Pueblo.

Made a bad decision took highway 24, should have taken 91. Wound us through canyons, up mountains, hair pin curves, no guard rails, not a good deal. Through Minturn, Red Gulch to Leadville. Do not take this road unless you are on a motor cycle and looking for a thrilling ride.

The balance of the trip, Leadville, Buena Vista, Salida, pretty good canyon trip up to the royal gorge. Was just fine.

Did you ever have Lunch at Walmart? We Did in Salida, I don't recommend it as a steady diet

Made it to, through, Pueblo and into Colorado City, staying at a KOA, easiest parking site we have ever had.

We had dinner at Obie's in Colorado city where they advertised Blue Bell by the scoop. False advertising, their shipment hadn't arrived yet.

DQ Rest Stop

September 9, 2015, Wednesday, day 87

Up at 7 away any 8:15. This is the second day of a four day drive to ultimately end up in Albuquerque where we will spend a few days before our final push home. We are headed for Grand Junction, Co today.

Salt Lake City was a real pain but not a real hold up.

We went on I15 to Hwy 50 and cut over to I70. 22 miles and we only saw 33 cars and 5 trucks.  It is a Beautiful drive on I70 from Utah to Colorado and anyone that is going that direction I would encourage you to take this route and enjoy the scenery and the small amount of traffic.

We hit it lucky again and found a DQ at a rest stop along with a Japanese Tour Bus.

Made it to Grand Junction, Colo a little after 4.

Ate at the Blue moon in Grand Junction, and had a great GCCB.

Tuesday, September 15, 2015

Okay Willie, Crank It Up

September 8, 2015, Tuesday, day 86

Up at 7 away at 8:30

On the road again headed for Brigham, City.

Stayed at Golden Spike RV park and ate dinner at a rusty Spoon.

Diesel Exhaust Fluid, does anyone know what this means?  I do now. It came up on my truck display, indicating I had so many miles left on my Diesel Exhaust Fluid (DEF). Going to a fuel station with Truck Manual in hand I ask if they had any of this. Turns out that they did and you could re-fill at the pump. This was all news, and new to me. Turns out that it is a process that sprays this DEF into the exhaust and causes a chemical reaction with bad stuff in the diesel exhaust and makes it environmentally friendly. Who knew?

Labor Day

September 7, 2025, Monday, day 85

Fix'en to get ready. More packing, and more packing and more packing.

33° this morning. Clear no fog.

Party On

September 6, 2015, Sunday, day 84

35° this morning, foggy, we were to have snow in higher elevations above 6,000 feet.

Labor Day party at the park, with the Bottom Line.

Did packing today trying to fit more that two pounds of olives in a two pound jar.
Got'er Done.

Game Day, Got Hooked

September 5, 2015, Saturday, day 83

Hook 'em Horns. Game day against the Mackerel Snappers.

45° here this morning.

Rain all day long and it's still 45°

Steak on the grill, you can see your breath.

See my Breath?

Got hooked, QB, QB, QB, where art thou QB.

Boise State Wins

September 4, 2015, Friday, day 82

Morning temp, 34°, burr.

Started some packing up with things laying around out side the trailer for the last two months. Golf push carts, bicycle, bottled water supply, etc.

Tonight we had Dinner at Steamers with our Handi Man and Marcia. Good meal, good friends. I wanted to have Chipino but it wasn't on the menu so I settled for surf and turf.

After dinner, back at the park it was time for Football. Boise State was playing their home opener on the Blue Turf against their former coach Peterson with their new head coach Harsen a former Longhorn offensive coach. Time ran out for Boise State just in time as Washington missed a tieing field goal in the last seconds. This was a big deal back at the park as there are so many Boise State fans there, they took over the Lodge to watch the game. It started at 8:30 local time.

I alternated watching Tennis and football, Na

dal didn't do as good as Boise State.

Good rain here in the evening and into the night.

Manhattans

September 3, 2015, Thursday, day 81

50° in the morning, not expected to get out of the 60's today. Started to sprinkle then turned to Raining pretty hard. Sunny at the end of the day but cool.

Lunch at Subway and then fuel up for the beginning of the way back home after Labor Day, before the price goes up.

HH inside with Manhattans for Fred and Franz made with Templeton Rye a favorite of Al Capon, made in Templeton, Iowa.

Thursday, September 3, 2015

Handi Men are Handy

September 2, 2015, Wednesday, day 80

47° this morning.

With Fran's and Marcia being back we decided to go to TPH to make sure the week was complete.

After breakfast we went to the Buttler's where F&M have agreed to water their plants while they are in Michigan for a couple of weeks.

The Toilet valve arrived from Amazon and the installation was performed by handi man Franz. I tried to help but I was just in the way, so I performed gopher duties. Works like a charm and the bathroom is now dry as a bone.

A Mile High

September 1, 2015, Tuesday, day 79

Didn't want to fix lunch in today so we decided we would go to Mile High Marina for burgers.

While we were there the dock attendant was having a little trouble with the breeze as it kept blowing her float tubes and rafts into the lake. Good thing it wasn't any stronger.

We were beginning to worry a bit about Franz and Marcia as when they left they said they would be back on Monday and Monday came and went.  So I texted Franz asking where they were and got no response.  Worried a little more.  Then around noon we received a text that they were in Banks eating breakfast, be back soon.  No more worries.  Seemed that they were out of cell range and his text to me saying they would be coming back Tuesday never made it to me and my text to him didn't make it either, until the got to Banks and cell service again.
